How do you manage stress?

I used to think the answer was supposed to be bigger. A system. A morning routine with twelve steps. Something I could show someone and say, “See? I’m handling it.”
Most days it isn’t that.
Some mornings stress feels like static under my skin—too many tabs open in my head, a to-do list that already feels behind before I’ve had coffee. On those days I manage it by getting on the floor. Not for long. Just long enough to cross my legs, close my eyes, and remember I have a body that isn’t the list.
I manage it by walking to the water even when I don’t feel like it. Salt air does something the inside of my head can’t. It doesn’t fix anything. It just makes the noise smaller for a little while.
I manage it by letting one thing be unfinished. By texting the person who knows me instead of performing “fine.” By eating something real. By putting my phone down when my chest gets tight and coming back to it only after I’ve stood outside for five minutes.
Mostly I manage it by staying. Not perfectly. Not heroically. Just long enough that the feeling has somewhere to go instead of running me.
Stress doesn’t disappear because I do the right things. It gets quieter when I stop treating every hard moment like something I have to win.
Salt in the air. Coffee in hand. And the choice to stay present.
