The Thing I Didn’t Think I Could Do

What’s something you’ve done that you never thought you could?

Stay.

Not the dramatic kind. Not the movie kind. The quiet kind. The kind where you wake up next to someone and the old fear doesn’t win. Where you let them see the messy parts—the body, the history, the days you still feel like you might run—and you don’t actually run.

I never thought I could let someone all the way in and still feel safe. I never thought I could build something small and real (a blog, a morning, a life) without waiting for it to be taken away. I never thought I could look at my own face in a photo and not immediately want to hide it.

But I did. I’m doing it. Some days it still feels like borrowing someone else’s courage. Most days it just feels like coffee on the porch and the choice to stay present anyway.

Salt in the air. Coffee in hand. And the choice to stay present.
